a love that lives in the dirt

2022-present

“a love that lives in the dirt” is a poetry collection that spans 2022-24.

in 2024, i began making spoken word movement videos for pieces in the collection. “forbidden prayer” was released in may, “summer solstice” in june, and “acid god” in august.

i was unsure of how to print the book, as i kept saying it was a “sacred text.” while in-residence at can serrat in barcelona, in sept. 2024, i began exploring what that meant in practice. and, during my month stay, i ended up designing and printing a single copy of the book, having it bound at a traditional bookbinder like a bible. i hand-picked the gold foil stamps and the black leather, and the book now lives as its own art piece while i navigate a plan for wider publishing.

previously, the spoken word videos were accompanied by others’ music. but when i returned home from spain, i began producing my own music as the start of a spoken word album for the collection. and in october 2024, i released my first fully self-produced track with a new video called “the divinity of darkness.”

the album and book publishing are still pending. more to come.
